We are looking for a Tooling Engineering Manager for our Corporate HQ Office located in Auburn Hills, MI.

Position Summary: Develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing tooling, processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. Develop, maintain, and audit department standard and procedures.  Recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls (including environmental).

An experienced leader with appropriate industry experience, preferably in the automotive manufacturing field. Essential Job Functions:

  • Work directly with design engineers to produce drawings from sketches, existing drawings, and electronic images.
  • Development of tooling that improves efficiency, cost, and quality.
  • Designs, develops, tests, sources and cost-justify various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods.
  • Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
  • Identify potential environmental aspects and design processes to minimize their impacts.
  • Represents tooling/manufacturing with cross-functional teams.
  • Develop and Maintain department standards and processes.
  • Computer and computer assisted design (CAD) proficiency.
  • Mentor tooling engineers on root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Responsible for ensuring that customer requirements are met.
  • Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and at least five years of tooling engineering experience.
  • Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  •  Ability to think ahead and plan over a 3-6 month time span.
  • The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods including flow, layout, assembly, and production equipment.
  • Product development.
  • Quality orientation and attention to detail.
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High performance teams and a strong team player.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50%.
